Provincial health authorities have found the 31st polio patient in the three-day eradication drive that concluded on Wednesday.
According to the authorities, patient Arshad, who is a three-year-old child, resident of Thatta district, had been administered the polio vaccine in the past. Experts say that the three-day campaign could not achieve its target of vaccinating 3.9 million children in Sindh under the age of five.
They also said that due to widespread illiteracy, many people simply refuse to administer polio drops to their children, which is a cause of the emerging polio cases. Sindh is the second unit with the highest numbers of polio cases, whereas the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) tops the list with 50 known polio cases.
