PPP, MQM, ANP behind Karachi killings: Imran

National

July 9, 2011

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan has accused the PPP, MQM and ANP of being directly involved in target killings in Karachi, terming the state protection of criminals and terrorists the main reason for the bloodbath in Karachi.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Imran said the Karachi bloodshed would not stop until the rulers gave up their patronage of criminals. He said since the government had failed on all fronts, it must immediately resign and pave the way for mid-term polls, which were the only solution to the problems faced by the country.
Refuting the claims of Interior Minister Rehman Malik about the involvement of the Taliban in Karachi killings, he alleged that criminal elements in the PPP, MQM and ANP were behind the Karachi violence, and not the Taliban. He further alleged that Rehman Malik had visited Karachi after each incident of violence only to strike a peace deal among the three ruling coalition parties.
The PTI chief alleged that the state’s protection of criminals could take the form of the notorious NRO or the patronage of target killers. He said if the three parties wanted peace in the port city, they should throw out criminal elements from their ranks and hand them over to law enforcement agencies.
Responding to a query about joining the proposed grand alliance of the opposition parties, he said, “The grand alliance is in fact a grand fraud.” He said PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif could not be trusted since he had deceived the opposition parties twice in the recent past and they were no more willing to be cheated for the third time in the name of a grand alliance. He said that after enjoying power with the support of the PPP for over three years, political elements were trying to cheat the masses through the proposed anti-government alliance.
Imran said the PML-N had been supporting the PPP government’s crimes against people in the name of democracy and even today it was overlooking injustices,

including power and gas loadshedding, being done to Punjab only to get its turn in power. He said Punjab Chief Sharif Shahbaz Sharif was keeping 20 portfolios for himself and was not ready to tolerate honest officers like DIG Zulfiqar Cheema since they were a hurdle to the rigging of by-polls.
