JI slams ANP for supporting OBL raid

PESHAWAR: Condemning the recommendations and policy statement of the ruling Awami National Party’s (ANP) think-tank, the provincial deputy chief of the Jamaat-e-Islami Mushtaq Ahmad Khan Sunday said the so-called nationalist party had humiliated the Pakhtuns by supporting the Abbottabad operation by the US Special Forces in which Osama bin Laden was killed.
In a statement issued here, he alleged the US drone attacks were being carried out with the tacit understanding of the ruling ANP. This has been proved by the revelations made by the WikiLeaks, he added.
He was of the opinion that the think-tank of the ANP in its meeting overlooked the real problems faced by the people of this Pakhtun-dominated region. He said it was a matter of shame for the so-called champion of the Pakhtuns’ rights to advocate the US cause.
“It is astonishing that the ANP think tank did not bother to include even a single word about the prevailing state of lawlessness in the province in its recommendations,” he said.
The JI leader said the unbearable loadshedding had made life a living hell for the people and resulted in closure of the industrial units and affecting the business of the people.
“It has become impossible for the majority of the people to make both ends meet owing to the skyrocketing price-hike. The frequent increase in the prices of petroleum products has multiplied the miseries of common man, but the ANP think tank could not see these issues,” he argued. On the one hand the ANP government has set records of corruption, while on the other it was trying to get credit for the killing of Osama bin Laden, he maintained.
Mushtaq Ahmad Khan also criticised the ANP central president for what he alleged his poor role as chairman standing committee of the National Assembly on foreign affairs. He alleged that Asfandyar Wali using his position had made compromises with the US over Pakistan’s foreign policy.
He opined that the recommendations of the think tank showed that the ANP was concerned more about accomplishment of the US designs instead of taking care of people’s problems.
