Lawyers belonging to the District Bar Association (DBA) and the High Court Bar Association (HCBA) offered ‘Ghaibana Namaz-e-Janaza’ of Osama bin Laden at the Kutchery Chowk here on Monday.
A large number of lawyers, including District Bar Association (DBA) President Malik Jawad Khalid and High Court Bar Association (HCBA) (Rawalpindi) President Shaukat Aziz Siddique participated in the ‘Namaz-e-Janaza’.
A heavy contingent of police and other law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area to avoid untoward situation on the occasion. Traffic from all sides remained suspended at the Kutchery Chowk for half an hour.
Lawyers offered collective ‘dua’ after ‘Ghaibana Namaz-e-Janaza’ and prayed for the departed soul of Osama bin Laden. Lawyers also brought out a rally from the Rawalpindi District Court and raised anti-US and anti-government slogans. They marched up to Kutchery Chowk and tried to stop army vans. Some lawyers lied down on the road in protest.
The lawyers demanded strict action against responsible people in the matter of US drone attacks. They announced to hold protest demonstrations throughout the country against the US which was freely violating the rules of the country.
District Bar Association (DBA) President Malik Khalid Jawad said that people were feeling unsafe in their country because the US has been continuously conducting drone attacks in Pakistan. According to Article 245 of the Constitution of Pakistan, the federal government should order its armed forces to retaliate but unfortunately it is unmoved against the situation, he said.
High Court Bar Association (HCBA) (Rawalpindi) President Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui said: “We do not want to indulge in discussion that what kind of man Osama bin Laden was but it is a matter of country’s sovereignty. “The US will devour our country if we fail to stop it,” he warned. He demanded immediate resignation of the government and registration of an FIR against the bosses of all responsible departments.
