In keeping with the resolve to further cultural exchanges between Pakistan and Brazil, the Embassy of Brazil has invited five prominent members of the cultural and artistic scene of Pakistan to visit Brazil in May.
They are Naeem Pasha (architect and poet); Noshi Qadir (Tanzara Gallery, Islamabad); Arsalan Ahmad Khan (Event Manager, Islamabad); Naveen Naqvi (journalist, Karachi) and Kamiar Rokni (designer, Lahore). During their nine days in Brazil they will visit Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte, including the Cultural Institute of Inhotim, near Belo Horizonte.
To bid bon voyage to the delegation, the ambassador of Brazil, Alfredo Leoni, hosted a dinner in their honour to which many of his and their friends had been invited.
Naeem Pasha is one of Pakistan’s most prominent architects with a penchant for poetry and an eye for beauty. He is the owner of Rohtas Gallery the oldest private gallery in Rawalpindi/Islamabad. Established in 1981, Shoaib Hashmi named it after the Rohtas Fort, near Jhelum and it encourages young and talented painters to exhibit their work. Naeem has designed many buildings including the National Art Gallery. His book on poetry, ‘Tulips in the Sand’ is a collectors’ item for those who appreciate this genre of art.
Noshi Qadir is an art enthusiast and embarked on a venture to help promote the arts in a more meaningful way by opening the Tanzara art gallery in Islamabad. The Gallery was established in 2007 and the name is a combination of her daughters’ names — Tanya and Zara.
Kamiar Rokni is a young and talented designer who combined his talents with that of his cousin and close friend Tia Noon to launch the Kamiar Rokni design house in late 2007 and the company has grown to be recognised as among Pakistan’s premier fashion design houses. The luxury brand label is best known for its focus of wearable, chic and fun clothes that have an international flavour and where each design bears

testimony to excellence in cut, workmanship and quality. They draw much inspiration from their Pakistani cultural heritage giving it their own unique and modern twist be it in pret, couture or wedding wear.
Naveen Naqvi is a broadcast, online and print journalist. She is the cofounder and editor-in-chief of Pakistan-based website, Gawaahi.com, an archive of digital stories of abuse, survival and resistance. Judged the International Media Excellence Awards for the Association of International Broadcasting. Was Senior Anchor on an English language news channel.
Arsalan Khan is one half of the Verve Event Management team, one of the youngest event managing teams in Pakistan. These two individuals have gained an edge by organising parties and concerts for customers that are mostly their own age but began to take on larger corporate projects after they had gained confidence.
All those selected for the visit were excited to be going to a place like Brazil, which is a little sidelined as a tourist destination because of its distance from Pakistan. “I always wanted visit Brasilia because of its great architecture,” said Naeem Pasha. “And the icing on the cake will be if I get to meet Oscar Niemeyer.” (A brilliant Brazilian architect who took on one of the world’s most exciting assignments in art: to design the palaces, public buildings, courthouses, churches-even the yacht club-of a whole new city). Apart from this delegation, a Pakistani football coach is also being invited by the Embassy for a training course in Brazil.
