PESHAWAR: The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and Jamaat-e-Islami on Wednesday condemned the killing of al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden in an operation in Abbottabad and termed the action by US commandoes a severe blow to the sovereignty of Pakistan.
Speaking at news conference at the Peshawar Press Club, JUI-F Peshawar District Chief Maulana Qari Rafique Shah, General Secretary Khalid Waqar Chamkani and Maulana Hussain Ahmad Madani also announced to hold Difa-e-Islam (defence of Islam) conference at Nishtar Hall in Peshawar on May 29. He said religious scholars and party activists would participate in the conference.
The JUI-F leaders declared Osama bin Laden a hero and mujahid of Islam who was fighting against the US and other infidel forces. They called the Abbottabad operation as an act of terrorism on the part of the US for violating the airspace and territorial frontiers of an independent state.
The JUI-F leaders said that the religious parties would resist the bid by the pro-American forces to make the country a secular state. They said the rulers were bent upon implementing the US agenda in the country and had given a free hand to its troops and intelligence agencies to carry out activities on the Pakistani soil without any hindrance.
