Syed Samiullah, who had allegedly written sacrilegious remarks in his Islamiyat and Physics papers during last year’s intermediate exams, was produced in the court amidst tight security but he was remanded back to the prison till February 17.

On Monday, the police produced answer-sheets of both the papers along with a copy of the FIR (56/2011) registered against him under Section 295-C.

The police arrested 17-year-old Syed Sami Ullah from his house in Mujtaba Town, Malir, on January 28 after they received a complaint against him from officials of the Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi (BIEK).

Professor Hafiz Syed Ziauddin, Lecturer Government College of Commerce and Economics, had reported the case to the BIEK’s Controller of Examination that Syed Sami Ullah had written objectionable remarks in two papers.

He had appeared in Islamiyat paper on April 30 and Physics on May 4, 2010.

Earlier, Sami Ullah had also tendered an apology in writing to the Board of Intermediate that he would not commit such an act in future.

He confessed before the police that he had written sacrilegious remarks in the answer-sheets after his thoughts were influenced by his relatives who had come from Norway.
