Demo supports Egyptian people
LAHORE
Some political parties on Wednesday staged a demonstration in front of the American Consulate to express solidarity with Egyptian people. A number of workers of four political parties, including Workers Party Pakistan, Labour Party Pakistan, Awami Jamhoori Forum and Awami Party, participated in the demo. The participants were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans in favour of Epyptian people.

Dacoits kill guard

A 50-year-old security guard was gunned down in crossfire with unidentified alleged dacoits near Tameer-e-Seerat High School in Raiwind City police area in the wee hours on Wednesday. Police said the deceased, identified as Khaleel Ahmed, a resident of Jhang, was on security duty at Khalid Fabric Factory when over 15 armed men barged into the factory at about 2: 00am on Wednesday.

Dry weather

DRY weather persisted in the provincial capital here on Wednesday while for Thursday (today) the MET officials predicted similar weather conditions. The MET officials said the maximum temperature in the City was recorded as 25 C while minimum was recorded as 6.4 C. Humidity was 70 per cent in morning and 32 per cent in evening.

THE Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is organising 15th intensive review course in orthopaedic surgery, Shaikh Zayed Hospital, Lahore from February 21 to February 26 for preparation of FCPS, MS & FRCS students. According to a press release on Wednesday, professors from all over the country would deliver lectures and train the students for exams.

A three-day 12th Symposium on ‘Frontiers in Physics’ kicked off on Wednesday at the Government College University Lahore Bokhari Auditorium with the joint collaboration of the GCU Physics Department and National Centre for Physics, Islamabad. The symposium features 13 technical and three poster sessions in which 93 research papers would be presented. A press release here on Wednesday said that over 150 researchers from across the country including Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, Quaid-i-Azam University, PIEAS, UET Lahore, PINSTECH, COMSATS, Punjab University, Karachi University and Quetta University would present their papers.

Speakers at the seminar said that the government should learn from the development policies of the neighbor country China instead of getting help from the IMF. Hamdard Thinkers forum arranged a seminar on the topic of “Dangerous Economic Situation of the country” here at Hamdard house on Wednesday. Veteran economist Dr Rafique, Prof Mina Muhammad Akram, Dr Ejaz Ahmad and Najma Sharif were included in the speakers. They maintained that government should minimize the non-development charges and should make policies to promote foreign investment in the country. They further added that government should make tax collection system more transparent to avoid corruption.

PUNJAB Assembly speaker and some parliamentarians on Wednesday visited the Services Hospital to inquire about the health of PPP MPA Mian Aslam. Mian Aslam, PPP MPA from Rahimyar Khan, has been under treatment in the hospital since last month. The Punjab Assembly members who enquired after the health of Aslam at the hospital included PA speaker Rana Mohammed Iqbal Khan, Finance Minister Tanvir Ashraf Kaira, Javed Hassan Gujjer, Mian Shafi, MNA Mian Abdul Sattar and Zarayee Tarqqi Bank (Agricultural Development Bank) president Zaka Ashraf among others.

THE Punjab University Examinations Department has announced the date sheets of Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm-D), Third Professional, Fourth Professional and Final Professional, Annual Exam 2010. According to a press release on Wednesday, Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm-D), Third Professional and Fourth Professional, Annual Exam 2010 will commence from Feb 23 and conclude on March 8 while Pharm-D, Final Professional will commence from March 14 and conclude on March 31, 2011.
