Corruption behind poverty: CM

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said corruption is a big hurdle to national development and the root cause of poverty and unemployment in the country.
Talking to elected representatives, he said all segments of society woud have to play an effective role in elimination of the scourge.
He said, “Pakistan can be strengthened economically and put on the road to progress and prosperity through good governance, curtailing expenditure and eradicating corruption.” He said the Punjab government had promoted a corruption-free culture in the province and every rupee of public money was being used in a transparent manner in the execution of development projects.
The chief minister said Allah had blessed Pakistan with unlimited resources and had sincere efforts been made for their development, there would have been no need to beg from others.
He to rid the country of loans, achieve self-sufficiency and a dignified status in the comity of nations, a corruption-free atmosphere would have to be created and plundering of resources checked.
