Step for transport uplift

LAHORE
A TURKISH delegation will visit the provincial capital this week to start implementation on the transport sector development plans devised by the Lahore Transport Company (LTC) after the initiative was taken by the Turkish authorities earlier last week.
In a meeting, Chairman Lahore Transport Company Khawaja Ahmed Hassan added that this investment will be made in the transport sector.
A vehicle testing centre, a bus terminal and bus rapid transit system, parking plazas, electronic ticketing and fleet management system will be set up in collaboration with Turkey. LTC will enter into agreements with private companies in order to provide standardised and affordable transport facilities to the people of Lahore. Turkey has taken the initiative for making investment in urban transport sector. MPA Mohsin Latif, Secretary Capt (Retd) Muhammad Yousaf, Director General LDA Umer Rasool, Chief Traffic Office Lahore Capt (Retd) Mobeen Ahmed, Chief Executive LTC J Ik Kim, GM Operation Asad Gilani, SSP Fawad Qureshi, GM Finance Adnan Mudassar and Media Advisor Amjad Hussain were also present in the meeting.
Chairman LTC Khawaja Ahmed Hassan that bus rapid transit project would have a revolutionary impact on urban transport sector. He said that in first phase bus rapid transit system would be implemented on Ferozepur Road and Multan Road. He said that dedicated lanes would be constructed on these roads for these fast moving buses. He said that after Korea, Turkey has also decided to make investment in rapid transit system. He said that a delegation from Turkey would visit Lahore very soon to execute a plan of action devised for making investment in transport sector.
He said that THE government and private sector of Turkey has reposed full confidence in the leadership of Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif. Khawaja Ahmed Hassan has said that increase in the fare of buses in the wake of increase of diesel prices must be in accordance with the formula agreed

between urban transport association and the Lahore Transport Company. He said that operational subsidy would be given to old buses. So, that the private transport companies could utilise these resources in order to refurbish the old fleet. He said that a system of enforcement was being made effective that was why 100 transport enforcement inspectors were being recruited directly on merit. Private transport companies are cooperating with LTC in developing Urban Transport Sector.
Secretary Transport while briefing about the visit of Turkey has said that Turkey has evinced keen interest in vehicle inspection & certification services, bus rapid transit, intelligent transportation system & integrated traffic management system, E-Ticketing , fleet management system , bus terminals project in Lahore , parking development & managements projects. Chairman LTC appreciated the valuable contribution rendered by secretary transport during the tour of Turkey in the domain of exploring new avenues of transport sector in Turkey.
