Jameel Fakhry gets son’s body

THE body of TV artiste Jamil Fakhry’s son Ali Ayaz Fakhry has been handed over to his heirs here on Wednesday while funeral prayers for the deceased will be offered at 10am on Thursday (today) on the Ravi Road. According to media reports, American police handed over the body of Ali Ayaz Fakhry to his brother Shahbaz Fakhry. Shahzad Fakhry reached New York from Canada to receive the body of his brother. The deceased will be buried in Miani Sahib graveyard. On the other hand, Pakistani embassy refused to give Jameel Fakhry details of his son’s murder.

Child dies in accident

A FIVE-year-old girl was run over and killed by a speeding truck in the jurisdiction of Batapur police on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Muqadas, daughter of Muhammad Tariq, a resident of Minhala village. Police said Tariq was going to drop his five children to school on his motorbike when Muqadas, who was snoozing, fell down from the bike on main road of Batapur and a speeding truck coming from behind hit and injured her.

Workshop

Fourth one-month long workshop to train teachers for promoting sustainable development of environment concluded here on Wednesday. According to a press statement issued here, Kinnaird College for Women Lahore hosted the Teachers Training Workshop, starting from November 15, in collaboration with Environmental Protection Department, Punjab. The program was first initiated in June 2008 to create environmental awareness amongst the youth. It is designed to develop in teachers’ trainees, awareness, competence, attitudes, values and enabling them to be effectively involved in imparting knowledge to their students and in promoting sustainable development of environment at local level.

Drug pusher jailed

ADDITIONAL District and Sessions Judge Ajmal Hussain on Wednesday awarded a four-month confinement to a drug pusher namely Arif. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs. 5,000 on the convict. In case of non-payment of fine, the convict will have to face a 15-day more imprisonment.

‘No one to be allowed to derail democracy’

MPA Zobia Rubab Malik has said “no one will be allowed to derail the democratic system and every patriotic and sensible politician wants the democratic system to flourish. The MPA, while talking to newsmen outside the Punjab Assembly, said we would not allow anyone to derail the democratic system, she said and added that everybody was in favour of mid-term elections. She said everything should be discussed and not brought out on the streets. Zobia slated increase in rates of power and gas in the Punjab and termed it a new formula to bring the flood of unemployment.

What’s more, those who mixed up their workouts showed the greatest improvement in blood sugar control after nine months, says Timothy S. Church, MD, PhD, of the Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, who led the study. “Our findings really support the 2008 federal physical activity guidelines, and our findings support those guidelines for everybody,” Dr. Church says.

BDS result

THE University of Health Sciences (UHS) on Wednesday announced the result of BDS, second professional, annual examination. According to a press release, a total of 481 candidates from 10 affiliated dental colleges appeared in the exam out of which 284 passed and 194 failed. The pass percentage remained 59.41. Maira Mubashar of Lahore Medical & Dental College Lahore got the first position securing 742/900 marks. Ushna Ahmed of Nishter Institute of Dentistry Multan and Ahsan Khalid of Multan Medical & Dental College Multan got second and third positions securing 726/900 and 715/900 marks respectively. The supplementary exams will commence on January 25, 2011.
