Customs seized Rs1.2bn goods in one year
PESHAWAR: The Anti-Smuggling Division of Peshawar Customs has seized goods and vehicles worth Rs1,200 million so far after the activation of mobile squads in October 2009.
“The division has played solid and active role in prevention of smuggling and seized goods and vehicles valued at over Rs1,200 million,” said Arbab Qaisar Hameed, deputy controller of the Anti-Smuggling Division Peshawar.
He added that the Customs staff under the guidance of Munir Qureshi, member of Customs, Federal Board of Revenue, and Muhammad Nasir Khan, Collector of Customs Peshawar, has seized smuggled goods since the start of mobile squads in October 2009.
In this regard approximately 2.1 million yards of cloth, 90,000 kilograms of tea, 12,000 kilograms of ghee, about 120 million tones of scrap and auto-parts, tyres worth Rs60 million, 130 million tones of poppy seeds, cigarettes, motor oil, electric goods worth more than 35 million and 90 unites of non-duty paid vehicles worth Rs90 million are the major items among seized goods. Further, more than 2,000 kilograms of narcotics have been seized. The Customs have arrested 41 smugglers after getting 39 first information reports registered against them.
