ISLAMABAD: Dutch Centre for Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries (CBI) and the Engineering Development Board (EDB) on Wednesday agreed to enhance cooperation by ensuring liaison and exchange of information for mutual benefit, a statement said.
The decision was taken at a meeting between visiting CBI delegation and EDB CEO Aitazaz A Niazi.
Christa Bouwhuis, leader of the CBI delegation, briefed the meeting about the sectoral analysis made by the centre in Pakistan on the possibility of long-term capacity development support to business support organisations and exporters in three different export value systems.
She highlighted the salient features of sectoral and sub-sectoral analysis and said that the final analysis would identify the sectors and organisations that provide best match with the market opportunities in the European Union, it said.
The EDB chief executive officer referred to the board’s role in tariff rationalisation, inputs, policy making, sector development and business development.
The auto industry development programme, trucking, electronic and steel policies, five-year exports development programme and national engineering exports development strategy also came under discussion.
In addition, the EDB’s relations with international organisations and hiring of foreign experts for the training of local industry were also discussed.
The issue of product certification, a prerequisite for entering in the international market, was also highlighted during the meeting, it said.
The visiting delegation appreciated the efforts of the EDB for promoting engineering industry and organising its participation in leading international trade fairs, including Hannover Messe, Germany, Mideast, France and Euromold Frankfurt.
