Pervaiz praises lawyers’ role in supremacy of law

LAHORE : Lawyers’ struggle for supremacy of the Constitution and law and getting justice for the oppressed is a bright chapter of our history and those blocking the way of justice will have to go now, said Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) senior central leader Ch Pervaiz Elahi.

The PML-Q leader said this while talking to a delegation of Sheikhupura District Bar Association. The delegation headed by president Ch Ghulam Murtaza Virk, secretary Rehana Naz Ghumman and senior lawyers called on him here on Sunday. The delegation was comprised of Ghulam Rasool Ch, Nasir Javed Cheema, Abdul Rauf Bhatti, Ahmad Murtaza Virk, Ms Maleeha, Ms Sana Akbar and others. Muslim League lawyers Ch Atta Ullah Virk, Shakeel Ataullah Virk and Nauman Raza were present in the meeting. The lawyers praised the measures taken by the government of Ch Pervaiz in Punjab for welfare and wellbeing of people from different walks of life. The PML-Q government established Punjab Criminal Prosecution for ensuring effective punishments to the criminals whereas Punjab Public Defender Service was launched for the poor to get free legal aid.

Ch Pervaiz Elahi said Shahbaz Sharif had scrapped all his good works or tried to scrap them including facility of free treatment and operation in government hospitals for lawyers. He mentioned other steps taken for the lawyers’ community during his tenure including regular annual funds provision at tehsil bar level, construction of judicial complexes in all districts, residential colonies for lawyers and their appointments in all government departments as legal advisers.
