Wetlands policy draft finalised

Federal Secretary Environment Muhammad Javed Malik has said that draft of National Wetlands Policy has been finalised and it would be presented in Cabinet meeting for approval. He stated this while presiding over a meeting of steering committee of Pakistan Wetlands Programme held here on Thursday.
The meeting was attended by Director General of WWF, Pakistan, AH Habib, Assistant Chief Environment UNDP, Abdul Qadir, National Programme Manager, Pakistan Wetland Programme Dr. Ghulam Akbar and provincial representatives from Punjab, Sindh, Baluchistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhawa, AJK, Gilgit Baltistan and Fata.
Achievements about various initiatives required for removal of encroachments around wetland areas, augmentation of spring water for wetlands and implementation on prohibited hunting discussed in the meeting. The provincial partners and representatives of stakeholders share their experiences in connection with implementation of various decisions adopted in previous meeting and also pointed out suitable measures.
