PR employees protest delay in salaries

PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Railways (PR) employees here Friday staged a protest demonstration to press the quarters concerned for immediate release of their salaries. Attended by a large number of employees, the protest was arranged by Railway Workers Union, Peshawar division. Union’s central leaders Manzoor Ahmad Razi, Rao Mohammad Nasim and others led the protest. The protesters were holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans in favour of their demands. The speakers urged the government to wave off all the loans of Pakistan Railways and take steps to strengthen the organisation. They vowed to resist any move to privatise the national institution. They also urged all the political leadership to play role for strengthening the railways.

46 suspects held after attack on police post

KOHAT: Personnel of the police and Elite Force arrested 46 suspects during a search operation after an attack on a police picket here Friday, police sources said.The sources said search operation was launched after militants attacked a police post in Bilitang late Thursday night. They said that around 46 suspects were rounded up in the search operation. Police also seized a car, seven Kalashnikov rifles, two repeaters, 10 rifles, eight guns and 56 kilograms of hashish.Meanwhile, the police recovered arms and narcotics from a car in Kohat. It was learnt that officials of Astarzai police signaled a car (M-5066) to stop in Karawal area on Mari Road but the driver sped away. Two occupants of the vehicle managed to flee. Upon search, five AK-47 rifles, 10 pistols and 40 kilograms of hashish were recovered from the secret cavities of the car.
