National

October 16, 2010

Karachi
A deputy general-secretary of the Punjabi Students Association (PSA) and an ex-activist of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement (Haqiqi) were killed in two separate incidents in the city on Friday.
Sultan, alias Tooka, 22, was shot dead in the Model Colony police limits.
Police sources said that Sultan, along with his friends, had been on his way to the Allama Iqbal Government College on Friday morning when four armed men riding on four motorcycles intercepted and started quarreling with them at Sheet 27, Model Colony.
They then opened fire on Sultan and fled. He was taken to a hospital where he died during the treatment.
The news of the incident provoked a protest in the Model Colony and outside the Allama Iqbal College where the students blocked the road for vehicular traffic.
The personnel of police and rangers reached the spot and managed to persuade the protestors to disperse after two hours of resistance. The protestors had also been given an assurance by the law-enforcement agencies that the killers of Sultan would soon be arrested.
The deceased was a resident of Millat Town, Al Falah. He was a student of B.Com Part-I.
In a separate incident, Ehsan, 35, was shot dead in the Jauharabad police limits.
Police sources said that Ehsan, along with his two friends, had been sitting near Fatima Arcade, Block 7, Jauharabad, when an armed man at about 3am on Friday approached Ehsaan and after ordering his friends to move back, shot Ehsan dead and fled the scene.
The deceased, a resident of Zakria Square, Block 7, Jauharabad, had been running a car stereo shop at Ayesha Manzil.
Ehsan left behind a widow and two children. He was an ex-activist of the MQM (Haqiqi).
Investigations revealed that a brother of the deceased, Kashif, had also been killed two years ago.
