Probe transfer requested in Shershah bridge case

Altaf Ahmed Choudhry, former Chairman National Highway Authority, filed an application in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge (West) Gulshan Ara Syed, seeking transfer of investigation of Shershah bridge collapse case.
When the case came up for hearing on Wednesday, all the accused were produced in the court. The judge adjourned the hearing till October 30. The matter of bail confirmation of the accused was also adjourned till October 30.
The hearing of Shershah bridge collapse case was also delayed due to the non-availability of witnesses.
Five people were killed and14 others were injured, besides six vehicles were damaged when a portion of the Shershah flyover collapsed on September 1, 2007.
Supreme Court passed an order on April 7, 2010, following which a case was registered against former NHA Chairman Altaf Ahmed Choudhry, former chairman NHA Major General Farrukh Javed, NHA Member (Operations) Raja Nowsherwan, NHA General Manager (Construction) Mohammed Yousuf Barakzai, former NHA General Manager (Construction) Colonel (retd) Tahseen-ul-Haq, former NHA Member (Planning) Syed Najmul Hassan, Chairman MS Engineering Consultants International Limited Zaheer Mirza and directors of Ms ECIL Khalid Mirza and Naveed Mirza.
