Gilgit-Baltistan was handed over to Pakistan under the Karachi Agreement signed between the AJK and Pakistan governments. It is a disputed territory and is not granted the status of a province under the constitution of Pakistan. The residents of GB are patriotic. But they have some grievances. These people are protesting against the imposition of new taxes.
Imposing these taxes without giving the region the status of a province is not a just decision. GB is a treasure trove of precious metals and diamonds. If Pakistan could tap its natural resources effectively, the paltry revenue earned from taxes will not be needed.
