Two factory workers were shot and injured by unidentified men in a mugging attempt in Block 4C of Ittehad Town’s Abidabad on early Wednesday morning.

Later in the day, a couple was also injured after they were apparently hit by a stray bullet.

Ittehad Town police station SHO Asadullah Mangi told The News that Muhammad Kamil, 22, and Adil Mehmood, 20, were on their way home after getting done with their day’s work when they were intercepted by two men.

He said the armed men demanded of the two to handover cash and cell phones, however, on refusing to do so, the robbers shot them.

They were taken to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for treatment where after surgery the doctors declared the factory workers to be out of danger.

Couple injured

A man and his wife were injured by a bullet that came in from an unknown direction in North Karachi Block 11-A.

Sir Syed police station SHO Mukhtar Panhwar said 58-year-old Sohail and his wife, 45-year-old Farah, were on their way to North Karachi from their house in Gulistan-e-Jauhar when they were hit by a single bullet.

The SHO said Sohail in his statement told the police that a bullet entered the car from his right side and hit his wife in the shoulder after grazing his chest.

The couple were initially taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital but were later shifted to the Aga Khan University Hospital, said the police officer; they were declared to be out of danger.

SHO Panhwar said Sohail told police that he did not see anyone firing at them and that he sped away and stopped in his car only after they had reached their relative’s home.

Suggesting the case could be an attempted mugging since there were reports of robbers intercepting a vehicle in the same area, the SHO said the police are investigating the case from all angles.
