PESHAWAR: The Jamaat-e-Islami on Friday observed a day of protest against the desecration of the holy Quran in the United States.
The demonstrations were organised at all the district headquarters of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the clerics delivered special sermons during the Friday prayers to curse the blasphemers of the holy book.
In the provincial metropolis, a protest rally was brought out from the historic Mohabat Khan mosque. It was led by the provincial secretary general of the party Shabbir Ahmad Khan, noted religious scholar Maulana Mohammad Yousaf Qureshi, district president of JI Sabir Hussain Awan and others.
Holding banners and placards inscribed with anti-US and anti-Israel slogans, the protesters gathered at the Chowk-i-Yadgar and heard speeches by the party leaders. Addressing the gathering, the speakers condemned the US for harming the sentiments of Muslims through different means.
Shabbir Ahmad said the Christian pastor by showing his intention to desecrate the holy Quran gave a message to the Muslims of the world to get united. He said if the US nationals or government tried to materialise their evil designs, no American would remain safe anywhere in the world. He added the Muslims were ready to sacrifice their life for protecting the sanctity of holy Quran.
He said that the Christian pastor was enjoying the support of the US government, which is bent upon crushing and humiliating Muslims and Islam.Our correspondent in Chakdarra ads: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Deputy Chief Sirajul Haq on Friday accused the United States and its allies of being involved in the desecration of the holy Quran.
Addressing a protest rally, he said the rulers remained silent spectators and did not show any courage to condemn the desecration of the Quran in the US. He said the government should take up the issue with the US, as the people of Pakistan would not tolerate any such act in future. The JI leader claimed the US and its allies were also involved in the plan of torching Quran to hurt the sentiments of Muslims.
Siraj also blasted government’s economic policy and said: “The government has failed to keep inflation rate under control due to which people belonging to poor strata of the society are committing suicides.”
He accused leaders of the Awami National Party (ANP) of distributing relief items meant for flood-hit people among their relatives and party workers.Takhtbhai students protest: Students here on Friday protested against the desecration of the holy Quran in the US and kidnapping of the vice-chancellor of Islamia College University, Peshawar.
Activists of the Pakhtun Students Federation (PSF) staged a sit-in on the main Mardan-Malakand Highway to record their protest against the burning of the holy Quran.Addressing the protesters, the speakers asked the government to recall its ambassador from the US to protest the heinous act.
They said the government was toeing the US line and did not have the courage to raise voice against the incident. They also condemned the kidnapping of the VC and called upon the government to take steps to secure his safe recovery.
