September 10, 2010
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday sought reply from the federal and provincial governments by September 22 on a petition challenging restrictions imposed to cover proceedings in anti-terrorist courts, national accountability courts and tribunals in the Punjab.
Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed passed the order on a petition filed by Senior Assistant Secretary General Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists Waseem Farooq through his counsel Muhammad Azhar Siddique. The petitioner’s counsel submitted before the court that the media had not been allowed to enter the court premises and forced to stay outside to face harsh weather.
He submitted that it was requested to registrars of the courts to allow the media to cover proceedings but they had denied under the pretext that the condition was imposed by the government without providing information about the restriction.
