Gul to undergo fitness test

LONDON: Umar Gul, Pakistan’s injured fast bowler, is racing against time to get fit ahead of his team’s Test series finale getting underway at Lord’s from August 26.
“He (Gul) is working on his fitness,” said Salman Butt, the Pakistan captain. “But let’s see. There is going to be a fitness test after which we will take a decision on who will play at Lord’s,” he added.
Gul tore his hamstring during the second Test in Birmingham and was forced to sit out of the third match at The Oval. He was replaced by rookie pacer Wahab Riaz, who took a five-wicket haul on his debut as Pakistan clawed back in the series by winning the Test by four wickets on Saturday.
Salman hinted that even if Gul gets fit in time to make the cut for the Lord’s Test, Pakistan might stick with Wahab in their pace attack along with new-ball partners Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif. “He (Wahab) bowled really well and took five wickets on debut,” he said.
