Roman Urdu most used language for SMS: Survey

Urdu and Roman script is the most used language for sending SMS and some use more than one languages for the purpose, said a Gilani Research Foundation survey on Monday.
According to the survey, some also copy and paste a message in any language and use that in their SMS, which they forward to other people.
A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the country were asked, “Usually, which language do you use for sending SMS from your mobile phone?” to which 37 per cent said they send SMS in Urdu typed in English alphabets, 15 per cent use Urdu typed in Urdu alphabets to send text messages whereas 17 per cent said they type SMS in English. While 29 per cent do not send any SMS, and two per cent gave no response.
The survey findings reveal that a proportionately higher percentage of urbanites, respondents under 30 years of age, and men send text messages in Urdu by using English alphabets from their cell phones, whereas a significantly higher percentage of ruralites use Urdu alphabets to type Urdu SMS.
