In celebration of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relationship with Pakistan, the Embassy of the Philippines in Islamabad has brought a unique cultural potpourri of songs from the heart of Philippines.

Organised with the support of the Philippine National Commission of Culture and the Arts, this cultural extravaganza is being held at National Art Gallery in Islamabad today (Saturday) in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Pakistan National Council of the Arts, and Lahore Arts Council.

The first ever such grand show organised by the Embassy of Philippines at NAG, the musical evening includes a recital of songs from the Philippine blended with some international songs by outstanding Philipino sopranos Maria Luisa Javier and Maria Krissan Manikan, accompanied on the Piano by Professor Josefina Garlit Bailen.

The soprano star Maria Luisa Javier is a faculty member at the Concordia College Music Center, Santa Isabel College, and Ryan Cayabyab Music Center. Luisa got her vast musical experience through pursuing musical education. She earned her Bachelor of Music in voice and Bachelor of Music in music from Santa Isabel College.

Maria Krissan Manikan is a mezzo soprano, started to sing at the age of five. She was inspired to pursue her love of music when in 2005 her High School Choir won the National Youth Music Championship. Krissan Manikan is still a graduating student at the Conservatory of Music of Santa Isabel College.

Josefina Garlit Bailen, the senior musical star of the show is a vocal coach and assisting artist. She was a lyric spinto soprano and opera concert singer during her younger years. With her vast musical experience, Josefina has travelled around the world and has earned immense appreciations and recognition. The ensemble of songs introduces the Philippines music to the people of Pakistan, aiming to build close cultural bond between both countries through the universal and peaceful language of melody and songs.

The Philippines musical show would also travel to Lahore, the heart of Pakistan, where a musical concert is organised at Al-Hamra Arts Council on October 13.
