Fruit, vegetable vendors stage rally

August 30, 2009
MANSEHRA: The fruit and vegetable vendors observed a complete strike Saturday against what they said harassment by the district administration.

The angry fruit and vegetable vendors, chanting anti-administration slogans, marched through various roads and gathered outside the office of district coordination officer (DCO).

Speaking on the occasion, Mohammad Shabbir and others said that the district administration had arrested hundreds of fruit and vegetable sellers for allegedly not following official rates.

They said the government should first bring down the prices at the big markets from where the rates were issued.

They demanded of the government to release all the arrested vendors, saying their children were hungry and nobody was there to feed them. They said that they had held talks with the administration to address their problems, but the administration did not pay any heed to their demands.
