PALPA asked to put off ‘go slow call’

April 21, 2009
Islamabad

A meeting of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Senior Staff Association (SSA) of Rawalpindi, Islamabad and North was held here with Sameer Karamat, senior officer, in the chair, says a press release.

The meeting discussed the prevailing situation in the national flag carrier and expressed concern over the alleged ‘go slow’ call given by the Pakistan Airlines Pilots’ Association (PALPA). Sameer Karamat requested the PALPA office-bearers to call off their ‘go slow’ and help run the airlines steadily, adding that it was causing embarrassment to passengers on the one hand and loss to the airlines on the other hand.

He urged the pilots association to resolve its row over salaries and other issues with the PIA administration through negotiations as PIA unions and CBA have already submitted their charter of demands to the administration for enhancement of employees salaries.

He called for strengthening the hands of Ijaz Haroon, managing director of the PIA, to turn the national flag carrier into a viable organisation. Karamat appealed to both the PALPA and PIA managing director to resolve issues, including increase in salary of PIA employees, on the table and save PIA from further losses.
