LAHORE

MODEL Town Investigation Police have arrested three suspects, including a close ally of Abid Boxer, over their alleged involvement in gruesome killing of Sheikh Zayed Hospital Administrator Dr Abdul Saboor.

Police investigators have also been working on various angles to track down the killers of Dr Abdul Saboor, who was shot dead on Friday morning by three unidentified people when he left his house to visit his lands in Kasur.

Sources in police told The News that circumstantial evidence points that the killers had a link with one of the victim’s rivals in Kasur district where the doctor owned a lot of land. It was learnt that the victim had a property dispute with three parties, including his relatives. The dispute with a Dogar family on property issues was resolved a few days ago but the same issue was pending with some family members. Police, however, have so far not started interrogating the relatives of the late doctor as on Saturday the deceased’s family was busy in Qul.

The third party with whom Dr Abdul Saboor had a property dispute was Nadir Gujjar, who was considered a symbol of terror in Kasur. A senior police officer told The News that Dr Saboor had a good relation with Nadir Gujjar in the beginning and they used to meet regularly.

The victim’s farmers had also warned him to avoid meeting such people who could harm him but the doctor liked meeting such people for the fun of it. Differences between Dr Saboor and Nadir Gujjar emerged when he came to know about his bad nature and started disliking him (Gujjar). The differences between the doctor and Gujjar increased when the doctor expressed his disliking of Gujjar and refused to keep ties with him. It was said that as Nadir Gujjar was the right hand of Abid Boxer and the former was still acting upon the mission of Boxer, the doctor quit meeting Gujjar.

Talking on the issue, IO of the case Rana Salman Ali said police were probing the issue to find out an authentic lead as no solid proof could be traced out so far. He claimed that the doctor was killed by professional killers who targeted the victim after getting thorough information about his (Saboor) movement.

Rana said that though some of the property disputes were resolved during the victim’s life but the investigation would still look into this aspect.

The News was told that the killers tried to mislead police by committing crime at a place where the limits of two police stations (Model Town and Garden Town) merged.

The IO was confident enough to unveil the mystery behind the killing of the doctor within a day or two. Replying to a question about the involvement of Canteen employees in the incident, the IO said that an employee could not go to such an extent over the scolding of his boss.

When contacted, SSP Investigation Zulfiqar Hameed confirmed the arrest of three suspects, including Nadir Gujjar, saying police were grilling the accused. He said so far the main lead goes to property dispute in which Nadir was also involved. He said the doctor’s visit to Kasur on every Friday by his private jeep was not known to everyone. The doctor used to visit his lands on official car on other days of the week.
