KARACHI: The tribunal directed the AAG to provide security to counsel for Pakistan Sunni Movement (PSM) Javed Ahmed Chattari after he complained that attempt had been made for kidnapping him near the gate of Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday afternoon.

“I left for the City Courts in break time and as soon as my car reached Rasheed Canteen, a tall man with heavy moustaches, tried to open the driver’s gate and as it was locked, he knocked in a very aggressive manner. He came to the other side, opened the door and pulled my driver out.”

The man identified himself as ‘Inspector Butt’ and as my gunman pointed a pistol towards him, he retreated and informed two other persons standing by a car at a distance. The persons ordered him to “let them go this time”, Chattari told the tribunal.

Later addressing a joint press conference, Shah Siraj-ul-Haq of PSM and Javaid Chattari said that warning and threats were being received by them from various quarters and mostly from police. “You will simply disappear” was a common threat, Chattari said, adding that personnel other than of police were involved in the incident.

He said that he himself and the PSM leader decided to boycott the proceedings of the tribunal unless adequate security is provided to him.

While the press conference was in progress, SHO Artillery Maidan approached the complainant advocate and said that he has received orders for providing police protection. In the meanwhile, TPO Saddar Town, Sanullah Abbasi also came in contact with Chattari and informed him that concerned duty officer is waiting for him so that an FIR of the alleged incident may be recorded.
