On the ordersof Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif, the construction work on the Peshawar Morr Interchange has been expedited and it would be completedby mid-March this year.
In this connection, Metro Bus Project Implementation Committee Chairman Hanif Abbasi and Rawalpindi Division Commissioner Rawalpindi and RDA Director GeneralSajid Zafar Dal visited the site of the Peshawar Morr Interchange inIslamabadand directed contractors to speed up work and complete itby mid-March.
Brigadier (r) Sohail Abrar, project director of the National Logistics Cell (NLC), was present during the visit. He said that 90% work has been done and it wouldfully complete soon. The commissioner and Hanif Abbasi directed for speeding up work for its completion by mid-March because the project wouldbe inaugurated on March 23, 2016.
The completion of the Peshawar Morr Interchange has been continuously facing delays due to slow pace of work, causing inconvenience to the residents of the twin cities.
The Rs5 billion interchange project being constructed at the junction of Kashmir Highway and 9th Avenue is being equally shared by the federaland the Punjab governments.
The construction work on the interchange has badly disrupted the smooth flow of traffic.
Interchange Project Incharge Waseem Tariq said that the total length of the underground, overhead and ramp roads is14 kilometreswith a width of one-and-a-half kilometres.
As many as eight flyovers and many roads are part of the project. He said that low relaxation imported steel has been used in girders and their life span wouldbe over 100 years.
Initially, the Metro Bus Project, including Peshawar Morr Interchange, was supposed to be completed by December 2014. However, the project faced delay due to many reasons.
