PepsiCo signs MoU to conduct trials on recycled plastic bottles

PepsiCo Pakistan and Novatex Limited took to the stage at the Pakistan Pavilion of the Dubai Expo 2020 to announce test trials for recycled plastic bottles in Pakistan. The announcement was made in the presence of the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on Climate Change Mr. Malik Amin Aslam.

The two entities have already partnered to collect and recycle over 5,000 tons of plastic in the country. Going forward, PepsiCo Pakistan and Novatex Limited will work together on significantly scaling up the collection of used plastic bottles.

PepsiCo Pakistan also held a one-on-one dialogue on ‘Public-Private Sector Collaboration to Promote a Clean and Green Pakistan’ with the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on Climate Change Mr. Malik Amin Aslam at the Pakistan Pavilion of Expo 2020 Dubai. The discussion focused on exploring ways for enhancing public-private sector partnership to tackle the issues of climate change, and collectively promote the Prime Minister’s ‘Clean Green Pakistan’ agenda.

Accelerating the Clean Green Pakistan mission, PepsiCo Pakistan pledges to continue taking meaningful steps forward for inspiring positive change for the planet and people as part of its holistic pep+ (PepsiCo Positive) agenda. The company has launched several meaningful programs to drive a circular economy and move towards its vision of a world where packaging never becomes waste in Pakistan.

Earlier in the year, PepsiCo launched one of the country’s largest plastic waste collection programs. PepsiCo Pakistan is also offering consumers an easy way to recycle plastic bottles. The company launched the country’s first Reverse Vending Machine in Pakistan through which consumers can get discounts for food outlets in exchange for used plastic bottles. In addition, they also recently launched a ‘direct from home’ collection in Islamabad and Rawalpindi whereby consumers are given free bulk water refills in exchange for used plastic bottles.
