MINGORA: Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) chief Senator Sirajul Haq on Saturday said his party would not accept any change in the original route of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Speaking at the Seratun Nabi (SAW) meeting at Grassy Ground in Mingora, he said the project was a fortune changer for the country and would usher in a new era of development in the backwards areas.

He said the project was of high value for the country and should not be made controversial. Sirajul Haq added that the JI would resist any change in the CPEC. He said that Malakand Division was included in the initial map for the CPEC.

“We have convened a jirga of the elected representatives of Malakand to discuss the problems of division and chalk out future course of action for securing share of the division in the CPEC,” he added.

The JI leader said the route of the CPEC should be passed through the militancy-torn Malakand Division to address the sense of deprivation among the people.

He said that Pakistan came into being in the name of Islam and JI would implement Islamic law in the country if voted into power.

Sirajul Haq urged the people to support his party in its struggle to put the country on the path to development and prosperity. On the occasion, several persons announced joining the JI.
