Islamabad : Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood on Wednesday visited the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) headquarters and discussed with NAVTTC chairman Syed Javed Hassan the progress on the revamping of the technical and vocational education and training (TEVT) sector in the country.
He appreciated the efforts of the NAVTTC in implementing the fourteen areas of intervention under the Prime Minister’s Hunarmand Programme and particularly lauded the initiatives of establishing 104 Job Placement and Vocational Counseling Centres (JP&VCCs), launch of the National Employment Exchange Tool (NEXT) and training of 37,000 youth in hi-tech and conventional trades.
He said further effective implementation will not only improve vocational and technical training but also create a paradigm shift towards training that would enhance employability of the youth in national and global job market.
The minister visited the National Accreditation Council (NAC) and said 400 TVET institutes and 1,500 training programmes have been accredited.
He said the establishment of NAC had a vital role in improving the standards of technical education through an effective and transparent accreditation system.
"This will not only discourage the issuance of fake certificates but also contribute to the recognition of certificates at international level," he said.
The minister promised the ministry's full support to the commission for materialising Prime Minister Imran Khan’s vision to reorganise and revamp the TVET sector to enhancing infra-structure capacity, enlarging skill development opportunities for youth, and bringing their technical capacities on a par with international standards both in conventional as well as high-tech and high-end technologies.
