Extortionist jailed for five years

An anti-terrorism court on Friday sentenced an extortionist Samiuddin to five years in prison.

According to the prosecution, the accused Samiuddin used to receive bhatta from law-abiding citizens in the area within the Sharifabad police station.

He had been arrested by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of the Sindh Police two years ago after a case was lodged against him.

After reviewing evidence against Samiuddin, the anti-terrorism court ruled that the accused was guilty and awarded him five years in prison.

Court orders security

A local court ordered the Garden police station to provide security to a 10-year-old boy Yaseen and his family since he had been allegedly threatened by terrorists.

According to the family of Yaseen, some people had tried to kidnap Yaseen and the police had not provided any help. Applicant Asif Ismail, represented by Advocate Naseer Khokarbefore the Additional Distrcit and Sessions Judge (South-VI), said outlaws first attempted to kidnap Yaseen on September 16 when he going to a coaching centre to study but the boy managed to escape their clutches.

The outlaws made another attempt on December 5 and tried to detain him by force. The family moved an application to the police station concerned for providing protection to their son but the police did not take any measures.

The court after hearing the arguments of Advocate Naseer Khokar ordered the police concerned to provide security to Yaseen and his family.
