The body of a newly-wed teenage girl was found hanging in DHA Phase V late on Monday night. District South police chief SSP Mahzoor Ali said Zainab’s body was found on the roof of a residential building.
Zainab’s husband is a law enforcement official, who was not present at home. The girl hails from Sialkot, and the two had gotten married a month ago.
The girl had been staying at her husband’s aunt’s house, the SSP said, adding that the statements of the husband’s aunt and cousin have been recorded, and are now being verified. The officer said the investigation would clarify whether the case is of suicide or murder.
Karachi Police Surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed-Tariq said Zainab’s post-mortem examination has been completed, adding that the girl had due to strangulation. She said the girl’s DNA and blood samples would be sent for a chemical exam to clarify the situation further.
Bhittaiabad attack
Armed men attacked a vehicle in Bhittaiabad late on Tuesday night, leaving a man dead and a woman injured. District Malir police chief SSP Abdul Khaliq Pirzada said shots were fired on a moving car.
The victims are believed to be from interior Sindh. The suspects on a motorbike opened fire on the car before speeding away. Police said the deceased was identified as Ali Asghar. According to initial information, the deceased worked in real estate.
Crackdown
The crackdown against unsafe and illegal LPG shops, launched on November 11 by the Karachi administration, continued across the city.
Various deputy commissioners had submitted performance reports on the campaign, initiated on the directives of Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi.
According to the reports, from November 11 to November 17, a total of 18 shops were sealed and fines amounting to Rs45,000 were imposed. Naqvi stated that the unsafe use of LPG would not be tolerated. He instructed all deputy commissioners to inspect LPG outlets in their respective districts and ensure strict compliance with safety protocols. Legal action would be taken against those who fail to comply.
He further emphasised that LPG shops operating in residential areas were illegal and pose serious safety risks. All deputy commissioners had been directed to ensure that the sale of LPG in residential neighbourhoods was halted immediately.
