Covid claims 17 more lives, infects 616 others

Covid-19 claimed 17 more lives in Sindh during the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 5,273 in the province, said Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in his daily Covid-19 situation report on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, 664 patients were under treatment at different hospitals, of whom condition of 609 was said to be critical while 49 of them had been onto life support. In addition to the 17 more deaths overnight in Sindh, 616 new cases of the viral cases emerged during the past 24 hours after 13,992 tests were conducted, it constituted a 4.4 per cent current detection rate.

So far 4,312,457 tests had been conducted in Sindh, against which 329,262 cases were diagnosed, of which 91.4 per cent or 300,864 patients had recovered, including 775 overnight. The CM said currently 23,125 patients were under treatment, of whom 22,436 were in home isolation, 25 at isolation centres and 664 at different hospitals.

Out of the 616 new cases, 352 were detected from Karachi, including 99 from District East, 85 from District South, 80 from District Central, 47 from District Korangi, 36 from District Malir and five from District West. In the rest of Sindh, Hyderabad had 59 new cases, Badin 28, Kamber 17, Dadu 16, Sanghar 11, Nausheroferoze 10, Jacobabad and Mirpurkhas nine each, and Matiari four.
