ISLAMABAD: A contempt petition was filed in the Supreme Court on Monday against Senior Superintendent Central Jail Adiala, Rawalpindi, for not implementing court's order for release of an acquitted person.
Zubair Khan, a resident of Texila, filed a contempt petition under Article 204 of the Constitution read with Section 3 and 4 of the Contempt of Court Act for violating the order of the apex court dated January 21, 2021
Qari Abdul Rasheed, counsel for the petitioner stated that his client was involved by the local police and real culprits were left off by the local police. Subsequently after trial, the applicant was awarded life imprisonment and the same conviction was maintained by the Sindh High Court Sukkur Bench.
He said they filed petition before this august court which was converted into appeal, and was then allowed on January 21, 2021 followed by detailed judgment. The court ordered petitioner's release if he is not required in any other case. The counsel stated that despite court clear order,his ailing client was not released by the Senior Superintendent Jail Adyala, while his mother was running from pillar to post for his release. The counsel requested the court to order release of his client, and initiate contempt of court proceedings against the jailer.
