NOWSHERA: Seven members of a family injured in a gas explosion in Khat Killay on Sunday, sources said.The source said that Naeem Khan, his wife Rahm Bibi, children included Rabiya, Haris, Owais, Shoaib and Ahmed were sleeping at night when the gas accumulated in the room and an explosion occured. All of them received burn injuries and were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Nowshera where from Rahm Bibi was shifted to a hospital in Peshawar.

Bomb defused

PESHAWAR: The bomb disposal unit experts on Sunday defused a five kilogram of explosive planted near a house in Lakki Dheri Road in Gulbahar.Police said the bomb disposal unit officials were called after locals informed the police about a bomb. The BDU experts defused the bomb.

Bajaur elders reiterate support to administration

KHAR: Arang tribe in Bajaur Agency on Sunday vowed to continue support to the political administration in maintaining law and order in their area.Officials of the political administration attended the jirga of the Arang tribe held here.Speaking at the jirga, Assistant Political Agent Muhammad Ali Khan asked the tribesmen to fulfill their responsibility by identifying problems in their areas.He said that the administration would launch development projects in the area soon. The tribal elders vow to continue support to the administration and security forces in maintaining law and order.They said that no one would be allowed to disrupt peace in the area. They asked the administration to refrain from depriving their area of development schemes.

Four held with weapons

PAKPATTAN: Police on Sunday arrested four people and recovered illegal weapons from them in separate incidents here. The police arrested Ghulam Fareed with a 32-bore pistol, Tariq with a pistol, Ishtiaq with a rifle and Sher Baz with a pistol. The police have registered separate cases.

15 couples tie the knot in Hafizabad

HAFIZABAD: As many as 15 couples tied the knot in a mass marriage function at Kolo Tarar on Sunday. The function was organised by a local organisation for poor couples. Speaking on the occasion, chairperson of the organisation Alia Usman Tarar and Ch Jafar Tarar said that they had arranged dowry worth Rs l50,000 for each bride. More than 200 guests from the families of brides and bridegrooms attended the function.

Bride killed by brother in marriage function

DASKA: A bride was killed by her brother during a marriage function at Veerwala village in Satra police limits on Sunday. Rab Nawaz was against the marriage of his sister Sadia with his cousin Rizwan Cheema of Daska. Rab Nawaz and his sister Sadia had also quarrelled with each other over the issue. On the day of the incident, the marriage function was under way and the Barat was yet to arrive when Rab Nawaz allegedly opened fire. As a result, Sadia and her relative were injured. They were shifted to the Civil Hospital where Sadia died. Police are investigating.

Two land grabbers held, TMA Hafizabad’s land retrieved

HAFIZABAD: On the order of the DPO, Kassoki police on Sunday arrested two people and retrieved a TMA’s land from them, which they had occupied illegally at Winni village. According to official source, the police along with the TMA staffers raided and retrieved the TMA land, which was owned by the TMA for water supply reservoir and was illegally occupied by alleged land grabbers Shahid Gonga and Muhammad Iqbal. The source told that the accused were also involved in selling narcotics and the police also recovered 2,750 grams heroin from them during the raid. The police also recovered illegal weapons from the possession of the accused persons. Separate cases have been registered against the accused persons.

Two dacoits killed in Bahawalpur

BAHAWALPUR: Two dacoits were killed in separate incidents here on Sunday. In the first incident, some dacoits intercepted a motorcyclist near Dring Stadium and tried to rob him but he overpowered one of them. It infuriated the dacoits and they opened fire at him to get his accomplice released. However, the bullet hit a dacoit, killing him on the spot. In the second incident, PO Latif was trying to commit a dacoity near the Ahmadpur East THQ Hospital when the people overpowered him and killed him. The killed PO was wanted by police in dozens of dacoity and robbery cases.

Married woman murdered for ‘honour’

HAFIZABAD: A married woman was murdered by her uncle for honour at Bhoon Ratta village on Sunday. According to police, Shakeela Bibi had contracted marriage with Javed Ahmad some years ago. Later, she allegedly developed relations with some young men of the village. Her uncle Riaz Ahmad had asked her time and again to mend her ways but to no avail. On the day of the incident, Riaz and Shakeela exchanged hot words with each other over the issue. Later, Riaz allegedly axed Shakeela to death. Police have registered a case against the accused and shifted the body to a morgue for autopsy.

Three of a family injured in Pakpattan

PAKPATTAN: Three members of a family were shot at and injured over a minor dispute at Chak 341-EB on Sunday. Five accused including Kali came at the shop of Allah Rakha and started quarrelling with him over some issue. Later, the accused allegedly opened indiscriminate firing. As a result, Allah Rakha’s mother Bilqees Bibi, daughter Ramsha and son Yaseen, who were present at the shop, were seriously injured and rushed to a hospital. Police have registered a case.

Youth found dead in Bahawalpur

BAHAWALPUR: A 22-year-old youth was found dead in his fields at Chak 93, Fateh, in Bakhshan Khan police limits. According to police, Younis Warraich was sleeping in his fields when unidentified people murdered him with a sharp-edged weapon. The body was shifted to the Chishtian THQ Hospital for autopsy.

Man dies 15 days after wife’s death

TOBA TEK SINGH: A 30-year-old man died 15 days after the death of his wife. Abida Bibi of Faiz Colony had died in a road accident near Mustafabad about 15 days ago. Abida’s death had demoralised and saddened her husband Muhammad Akram, a rickshaw driver. He remained in shock and died in his house on Saturday night. The couple had two minor children.

Drug pusher held in Chakwal

CHAKWAL: City police on Sunday arrested a drug pusher and recovered 530 grams charas from him. On a tip-off, the police raided and arrested Abdul Rauf of Bharpur village from Pir Bukhari Darbar and recovered 530 grams charas from him. The police have registered a case.

Two women injured in Vehari

VEHARI: Two women were injured over a minor dispute at Chak 23/WB on Sunday. Guddu Hani and Sughran Bibi quarrelled over a minor dispute and injured each other. Both were rushed to the DHQ Hospital.

PAKPATTAN: A mentally retarded man was crushed to death under the wheels of Fareed Express near Chak 208/EB on Sunday. Muhammad Waseem was crossing railway lines when the train arrived and crushed him under its wheels.
