Electricity defaulters’ cases sent to NAB for recovery

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Water and Power has forwarded cases of electricity defaulters whose outstanding amounts are above Rs1,00000 to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for recovery.

A letter in this regard has been written by the ministry on Wednesday addressed to DG (Operation) NAB headquarters, a news statement said.

The ministry also directed all the electricity Distribution Companies (Discos) to submit defaulters’ lists having outstanding amounts above Rs1,00000 and pending more than one year to NAB for recovery.

It may be mentioned here that pursuant to the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet decision the Ministry of Water and Power had directed all Discos to give special concession of up to 30 percent rebate on outstanding electricity bills for the defaulting consumers. A warning was also given that in case of non-payment lists of these defaulters shall be forwarded to NAB for recovery and other penal actions.
