These days, the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) is conducting the fresh ‘annual school census’ to update records of the critical educational indicators in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).
The exercise, which was supposed to be carried out on annual basis, is happening after a gap of three years.
For the census, the FDE, overseeing government schools and colleges in Islamabad’s rural and urban areas, uses its own data collection tool, which is regularly revised every year for improvement.
Once the data is collected from educational institutions on education-related statistics and demographics, human resource information, infrastructure and asset statistics and performance measurement data, it is digitalised through the Educational Management Information System, a purpose-built decision support system designed, developed and maintained by the FDE Information Technology Section.
The Ministry of Education has established an EMIS Section at the FDE for collecting data before processing, analysing, publishing and distributing it for the information of planners and decision-makers.
Lately, the FDE wrote to the government schools and colleges to submit the respective education-related records by Dec 21. And these records will be processed by the EMIS until Jan 25.
A relevant official said the census would help planners and decision-makers improve the delivery and quality of education in the ICT.
