KARACHI: A Boeing 737 of Shaheen Air International with 121 people on board soon after landing at the secondary runway of the Allama Iqbal International Airport (AIIAP) in Lahore dragged on to the runway and went off the runway about 1,000 feet short from the end into the “kachcha” area, said a press statement.
No passenger or crew member was injured.The aircraft (Flight NL-142 from Karachi) stopped at a distance of about 70 feet west of the runway edge. While noticing the abnormal movement of the aircraft on the runway after landing, the CAA ATCOs at the control tower reported the incident to the CAA fire station, and the CAA fire crash tenders rushed to the site.
In the meantime, the Airport Manager, Rashid Hussain, and other CAA officials reached the site and immediately evacuated the passengers and crew members from the aircraft.
The passengers were taken to the lounge where they were looked after by the CAA officials.
Since the incident took place on the secondary runway of the Allama Iqbal International Airport, the main runway was operational without any hindrance, and no flight was delayed.On the orders of the Director-General of the CAA, the safety investigation team has started an inquiry into the incident. Moreover, as a precautionary measure, the CAA is ensuring inspection of all aircraft.
