An alleged RAW agent was among 17 suspects rounded by law enforcement agencies personnel during separate raids on Wednesday.
The Counter Terrorism Department’s (CTD) Investigation Wing claimed to have arrested a RAW agent, Mohammad Arif, from Baldia Town in a raid. The accused was said to have opened fire on the policemen but was arrested following a brief encounter; a pistol and a hand grenade were seized.
The accused, during investigation accepted being a RAW agent, further disclosing that he used to visit India from time to time. He informed that he used to be moved from one Indian army camp to another where he received training with respect to manufacturing bombs as well as operate different weapons.
The CTD also arrested five suspects in a raid conducted in Korangi No.5; they were identified as Umer Baig alias Farman alias Chashmu, Miraj, Afzal, Waleed and Zubair alias Nawab. Five pistols were also recovered from them. The men were ‘hit men’ and were a part of a gang. The accused were also claimed to have confessed murdering a owner of Ali Hardware shop, situated in Korangi, a few days ago. The gang had killed people in Surjani Town, Malir, New Karachi and other areas.
Rangers arrest
The paramilitary force claimed to have arrested eleven suspects including members of Lyari gang-war and banned terrorist outfits. The Rangers spokesman said that raids were conducted in Gulshan-e-Ghazi, Gulberg, Eidgah, Lyari, Liaquatabad, Hub and Uthal area near Balochistan.
