MULTAN: Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar has taken notice of delay in appointment of doctors at Nishtar Hospital exclusively for the treatment of corona suspects as it is facing acute shortage of doctors.
Talking to journalists after distributing corona kits among doctors at Nishtar Medical University auditorium here on Saturday, he said that he would expedite the process of approval of summary for appointment of doctors.
The governor said that corona pandemic could be critical in the coming days. He warned that if the mosques and Ulema did not adopt corona protective measures, then the situation would become worse in the next month.
He said that the government had launched the Ehsas Programme without any political prejudice. The ration was distributed among 500,000 poor families in the Punjab through the Punjab Development Network in collaboration with welfare organisations.
The governor said that philanthropists and the business community had donated Rs 400 million to the Prime Minister’s Corona Relief Fund. The Punjab Governor House alone had collected more than Rs 3 billion to help the people affected by the lockdown, he added.
He said that bad time was not over yet regarding spread of corona and the people should continue to follow corona protective measures.
The governor said that telemedicine centres had been launched in the Punjab to cater to the needs of OPD patients. He said that more than 30 telemedicine centres had been providing services in the Punjab. He largely appreciated the services rendered by the district administration, police and other departments.
He said that parliamentarians were standing with the people in the present ordeal. The governor said that Pakistan had started preparing sanitizers and other protective items at the domestic level. The coronavirus had largely affected labourers and daily wagers, he said.
The governor said that 3,000 corona kits were provided to the Multan Nishtar Hospital. He saluted the doctors for fighting against corona. He said that the police were playing a key role in successfully implementing the lockdown. Nishtar Medical Health University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mustafa Kamal Pasha, MPA Wasim Khan Badozai and Punjab Minister for Energy Dr Akhtar Malik also spoke on the occasion. Meanwhile, Regional Police Officer Wasim Ahmed Khan briefed the governor on the lockdown situation.
Meanwhile, talking to a PMA delegation at the Circuit House, Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar assured the Pakistan Medical Association members that their demands would be met.
The governor said that the demands of the PMA, including provision of health risk allowance, corona protective kits and recruitment of new doctors and nurses under corona emergency, would be met.
PMA president Prof Dr Masood Haraj demanded the governor provide Personal Protective Equipment to the DHQ and THQ hospitals and the RHCs. He demanded the governor that the quarantine centre should be established at the Nishtar Hospital’s Rafeeda Hall. He also stressed for taking measures for effective lockdown in the province. He urged the governor to appoint new doctors and nurses to combat corona emergency. The governor assured the PMA members that their demands would be resolved on priority basis.
