Rawalpindi : As many as nine more patients have been tested positive for disease caused by 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) here in town in last 24 hours taking total number of confirmed patients of the disease so far reported here to 21.
According to details, as many as 17 of the patients confirmed positive in Rawalpindi have been undergoing treatment at Corona Management Centre at Rawalpindi Institute of Urology and one each at Benazir Bhutto Hospital, Military Hospital, POF Hospital Wah Cantt and Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences while one patient expired at Military Hospital on Wednesday, said Executive District Officer (Health) Dr. Sohail Ahmed Chaudhary while talking to ‘The News’ on Friday.
He added a significant proportion of population in the district has not been taking situation as seriously as it is and a number of individuals have not been complying with the orders of the government regarding lockdown but still we have been able to keep the coronavirus spread in control to a great level.
The number of patients is increasing in the Punjab province and Pakistan as well but not like the other countries of the world and we hope that if people start listening to the federal and the provincial government authorities in Pakistan, we may be able to control spread of the disease, he said.
It is important that over 30 patients have been tested positive for COVID-19 from Islamabad Capital Territory so far, at PIMS of which some 12 were undergoing treatment at the hospital on Friday while two have been discharged after cure. Well over 15 patients confirmed positive for COVID-19 did not need in-hospital management as they were stable and asymptomatic.
Dr. Sohail said it is time to make people understand that they must follow the orders of the government regarding lockdown as these are meant for their safety and nothing to do with anything else. Individuals must stay at home to keep themselves and their dear and near ones safe, he said.
It is most important to know that if you want to keep people around you safe, you must stay at home and you must not be a part of coronavirus spread, he said.
