A Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmaker has urged the anti-corruption department to form a committee to investigate into the alleged involvement of Karachi Development Authority (KDA) and Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) officers in corrupt practices.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, MPA Bilal Ahmed Ghaffar said that due to the land mafia, bribery has become commonplace in the two government departments. “Some officers are also involved in forging documents, signatures and seals in the absence of checks and balances.”
Ghaffar said that a number of plots and flats have been occupied by forgery in Karachi with the help of fake documents, adding that people are being deprived of their homes. “The KDA’s planning wing officers are involved in corruption to the tune of billions of rupees.”
He said that the aforementioned officers carry out operations only in those places from where they receive no bribe. “Due to the appointment of unqualified and unskilled personnel, the department has been unable to initiate any project in a long time.”
The lawmaker said that the KDA and the SBCA spend years devising strategies after getting a tender. “Societies are being established in the city on occupied land, thousands of plots are being sold through advertising, resulting in losses to the ordinary citizens.”
He urged the anti-corruption department to broaden their net of investigations, as well as to take strict action against corrupt officers sitting in the KDA and the SBCA.
