RIS-RYMUN’2020 begins in capital

Islamabad : The Roots Youth Model United Nations 2020 commenced with an inauguration ceremony integrating mesmerizing Chinese, Egyptian, African, German and SDG’s and other global ethnic presentations and performances by the talented students of Roots International Schools & Colleges (wellington Campus, Rawal Campus, Richmond Campus, Westridge Campus and Ghandhara Campus), says a press release.

The opening ceremony included performances by students depicting and highlighting diverse colors of different ethos. These representations incorporated cultural harmony and peace around the globe. The presentations were meticulously appreciated by all the honorable guests as well as the delegates.

The ceremony officially commenced by the speech of RYMUN Secretary General Hamza Farooq. Later, the Advisor to RYMUN 2020 President, Ms. Shanoor Owais also greeted the guests officially.

Students from various campuses of Roots International Schools & Colleges gave electrifying performances at the inauguration ceremony.

On the occasion, the Ambassador of Palestine to Pakistan Jawad Rabei, Ambassador of Portugal H.E . Mr. Paulo Neves, CEO RIS . Walid Mushtaq also graced the occasion with their presence. All the ambassadors appreciated the students’ efforts and highlighted the expectations they have about the impending four days and motivated students to accomplish with the same enthusiasm and vitality.

While addressing the audience, the Ambassador of Palestine to Pakistan stated how RYMUN provides the chance to all participants to develop their communication, negotiation, and cooperation skills and also sharpen the sensitivity and analysis skills in understanding many of the world’s conflicts and problems. He added that the young generation gets immensely benefitted by conferences such as these, since they provide a platform to all the students to assess the critical strategic problems and the evaluation of the UN Security Council in addressing the current issues and problems afflicting the third world countries. The Ambassador also stressed on how the schools can play an important role in bringing Islamic values and culture to the surface and instilling them in our youth.

As many as 1000 delegates from across Pakistan are participating in the RIS RYMUN-2020 Conference and they will discuss multilateral issues including countering violent extremism, ensuring freedom of expression, adapting to climate change and promoting the human rights of migrant workers, says a press statement issued here on Friday.

Roots International Schools & Colleges CEO Walid Mushtaq addressed the delegates and articulated his projections from the conference. He commended the unprecedented optimism and enthusiasm that the delegates brought to the conference. President -RYMUN-2020- Sir .Walid Mushtaq also talked about the vital role of youth in a country’s development and explained how the world needs their active engagement. He said that the youth of the country have the potential to make Pakistan more peaceful, prosperous and developed country. The CEO RIS pointed out that today’s Pakistan has changed as compared to that of previous generations and the youth of this country has all the potential to become great leaders and entrepreneurs.

Titled Effective Responses to Global Crisis - Empowered Lives, Resilient Nations, Pathway to climate Action for Peace the conference is being organized by the RIS Debate and MUN Society. Having been held annually since 2009, the conference is the largest in Pakistan, claimed Secretary General ; Hamza Farooq in his address to the audience. “It’s not a typical debating competition, it’s a whole social experience for the delegates,” he said.

Model UN simulates the actual workings of the United Nations and related organizations. An excellent way to acquaint young people with the inner mechanisms of international political structures, MUN affords competitors an in-depth look at the subtleties of the United Nations.

Participants, known as delegates, take the roles of UN diplomats from various countries and must faithfully represent their adopted country’s views on a given topic.
