Major restructuring of Health Ministry in the offing

Islamabad : In keeping with international best practices, the Ministry of National Health Services Regulations and Coordination (MNHSRC) will be renamed ‘Ministry of Health and Population,’ which is just one of the many steps that will be taken in wake of the Federal Cabinet’s approval for structural and organizational reforms of the said ministry.

Noting that the restructuring of the Ministry was essential to fulfilling the government’s vision for health, the Cabinet Tuesday approved correction of the existing imbalance in technical and administrative positions, from the existing 80 per cent staff having no health background to 70 per cent technical and 30 per cent administrative staff.

“As part of the reform, a completely new organogram has been created. Key positions will be filled by technical experts alongside civil servants in high administrative positions, thereby fostering an enabling role for the Ministry to function effectively and transparently,” a press release issued by the MNHSRC states.

Accompanying this reform, a new service for health among cadres of civil services of Pakistan has also been approved by the Cabinet. This service will train civil servants for the reformed MNHSRC, further increasing its performance to accomplish assigned responsibilities.
