Islamabad : The International Islamic University remained closed on Friday following a violent clash between two student groups on main campus with the administration promising a combing operation in hostels to act against illegal and irrelevant people.
The Thursday night armed clash over the holding of a book fair by one group had left one student dead and 13 injured.
A high-level IIU meeting was held on Faisal Masjid campus on Friday to review the situation post clash and devise the future policy.
It was chaired by IIUI Rector Dr Masoom Yasinzai and President Dr Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh and attended by vice presidents, DGs, deans, directors general, directors, students advisors, provosts and other relevant officials.
It decided that a ‘combing operation’ will be launched with the help of the Ministry of interior and its subordinate offices at university hostels in which strict action will be taken against illegal and unconcerned elements.
The meeting also discussed the issue pertaining to the entrance of outsiders into the premises of IIU which caused the untoward happening resultantly.
Dr. Masoom and Dr. Ahmed constituted a high-level committee to present a detailed report regarding the incident in two days.
The IIU president said on the occasion that hindrances in the peaceful milieu of the university will be dealt with strict measures and all the lethal attempts to sabotage the image of the university will be foiled.
He said negative elements will be dealt with iron hands.
Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh sincerely thanked and acknowledged the timely help and cooperation extended by the Ministry of Interior, its relevant offices and capital administration.
Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh expressed deep grief and sorrow on the loss of life of a student of the university and extended solidarity with the family of the deceased. He assured maximum cooperation to the bereaved family. At the end of the meeting, the IIU president offered supplication for the departed soul and also prayed for the early recovery of those students who sustained injuries.
Later on, IIUI Rector held meetings with the officials of the capital administration and law enforcement agencies and discussed the situation.
