Parts of city receive drizzle, light rain

Under the influence of a westerly disturbance, drizzle or light rain was reported from different areas of Karachi on Wednesday evening, meteorologists said and predicted cloudy weather with intermittent drizzle and light rain on Thursday morning.

They said the minimum temperature could drop a couple of Celsius degrees in the city after rain and snowfall in upper parts of the country.

“We are expecting drizzle or even light rain in Karachi on Thursday morning too under the influence of a westerly disturbance, which is expected to cause some good rains and snowfall in the upper parts of the country,” said Sardar Sarfraz, chief meteorological officer (CMO) of Sindh, while talking to The News on Tuesday.

There were reports of rain from Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas and Tando Muhammad Khan under the influence of a westerly disturbance, the Met office said and added that

only drizzle with cool breeze was reported from different areas of Karachi on Wednesday evening.

According to the weather forecast of the Pakistan Meteorological Department, rain-thunderstorm is expected at isolated places in the districts of Karachi, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Badin, Thatta, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Jaccobabad, Kashmor, Banzirabad, Sukkur, Dadu and Hyderabad on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

Sarfraz Sarfraz said they were not expecting any proper rain in the city through the prevailing system, but he added that under its influence, temperatures cold turn a bit cold in the coming days. “There is a chance of a drop in the minimum temperature by a couple of degrees in Karachi, but there is no cold wave on the horizon at the moment for people in Karachi.”
