Bahadur, who says he is a cloth trader, approached Sohrab Goth police station on Wednesday for registration of a case against his and his cousin’s alleged kidnapping. The police, on the other hand, accused that Bahadur was a drug dealer who was trying to “blackmail the police with the help of his gang members”.

Sohrab Goth SHO Abdur Rasool Siyal said Bahadur had earlier been imprisoned over a drug case registered at Sohrab Goth police station. However, in his complaint, Bahadur asserted that he and his cousin, Samad, who is also a trader, were heading towards New Sabzi Mandi when four men in civvies intercepted them. The kidnappers were riding two motorcycles and the incident happened on November 30, he added.

The four men in plainclothes told us that they were policemen and they blindfolded us, Bahadur said, adding that the kidnappers asked “us to pay Rs2 million as ransom.”

“The policemen then moved us to Sohrab Goth police station where a policeman, namely Aftab, took us to a room where some policemen threatened us that they would put weapons and narcotics in our car,” he said, adding that policemen also threatened them to kill in a fake encounter if they failed to pay the ransom.

The policemen also tortured them, the complainant claimed. He said they were released from a backdoor of the police station after a person, namely Mir Hassan, collected Rs400, 000 from Bahadur’s family and took Rs22,000 Samad. The police have received Bahadur’s application for registration of a case. However, the police have not registered a first information report yet.
